Coughs, Congestion, & Sinus Problems

Convenient Walk-In Care for Upper Respiratory Issues

Upper respiratory problems are not just irritating – they can lead to serious health conditions if left undiagnosed and untreated. If you are experiencing chronic coughing, congestion, or sinus problems accompanied by other symptoms, we can diagnose your condition and help you find the relief you need.

If you or someone in your family is suffering from congestion or coughing, visit one of our centers in West Palm Beach, Jupiter, Stuart or Palm Beach Gardens today.

Determining the Cause of Your Cough

A wide range of viruses, bacteria, and conditions can cause you to have a cough. The length of time your cough lasts depends on which type of cough you have.

The three types of coughs are:

  • Acute: lasting less than three weeks
  • Subacute: lasting between three and eight weeks
  • Chronic: lasting more than eight weeks

The common cold, the flu, and flu-like infections often cause coughing, as do asthma, smoking, and certain medicines. If your cough has been persistent and has not improved within two weeks, visit one of our centers.

Treating Congestion

Congestion is a particularly irritating symptom of colds and the flu, but can also indicate a more serious illness or a condition like allergies, benign nasal polyps, or a deviated septum.

If you are congested, you will likely be experiencing:

  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Built up mucus
  • Swollen tissue in nasal passages
  • Sinus pain

We encourage you to visit us for treatment, especially if your congestion persists for over a week or occurs in conjunction with a high fever and/or severe sinus pain. Depending on the severity and cause of the congestion, our team can recommend the right course of treatment and prescribe nasal sprays, antihistamines nasal steroids, or antibiotics as needed.

Treating Sinus Problems

Your sinuses are the hollow spaces around your nasal passages that make mucus and protect you from allergens and pollutants. Most sinus problems are caused by allergies, environmental irritants, or a cold, but some can be the result of a more serious infection.

If a neti pot and a hot shower are not improving the state of your sinuses within a week or so, or if you are experiencing a high fever, vision changes, or a severe headache, we recommend meeting with one of our medical providers.
